Loom Benches

Choosing the correct bench for your weaving needs is probably one of the most important decisions a weaver can make. The ability to avoid interruptions caused by fatigue, and continue weaving over long periods of time, are largely dependent on the comfort of the weaver.

All 3 styles of Leclerc benches are made from the finest Canadian hard Maple and are finished with clear lacquer and varnish to match the Leclerc loom they are used with. The are both comfortable and practical and are designed to fit out of the way under the loom breast beam when not being used.

Open End Bench

This is a solid wood bench with a wide comfortable seat and a pair of easy-to-access storage compartments on each end for shuttles, bobbins and other weaving tools. The seat also folds up to reveal an even larger storage area that can be used to keep extra tools and yarn out of sight. This bench comes in two sizes to match the complete range of Leclerc floor looms

Adjustable Height Bench

Made of Solid Wood, this smaller loom bench is adjustable in height to allow the weaver to select the most comfortable position. Recommended for use with the Compact (24"), Artisat (24") the Minerva and the Dorothy and Voyageur table looms if on a stand.

Rocking Bench

The Leclerc Rocking Bench solves the dilemma faced by some weavers who are unable to get a bench at exactly the right height and who experience leg numbness caused by the seat edge cutting into the back of their legs (especially for shorter weavers).

With a seat height adjustable in 1" (2.5 cm) increments from 21" to 26 3/4" , this bench will satisfy the requirements of any weaver regardless their height. In addition, the seat can be set at a fixed angle of 84 degrees while at any height aligning the weaver's leg when the treadles of the loom are being depressed. This eliminates the problem with the seat edge cutting off blood circulation. As an additional feature, the seat can be set to "float" with the movement of the weaver's body through the full 90 to 78 degree arc so the seat is always kept aligned flush with the angle of the leg.

With a full 12" by 24" seating area, this bench will provide maximum comfort over extended weaving periods. This bench weighs 15 lb (6.7 kg) and can be ordered with optional Storage Bags (shown below).

Optional Bench Bags

To provide storage for the weaver using the Leclerc Rocking bench, a set of pouches that easily mount on the ends of the bench are available. Made of long wearing denim material, these bags are large enough to hold all the weaver's tools and supplies close at hand. Note that we can also special order the Adjustable Height Bench (6384-6000) with holes to allow these bags to fit it.

"Holds-All"

The next best thing to having your own weaving assistant, Leclerc's "Holds-All" is a handy table designed to sit near your loom to hold tools as well as providing a convenient bobbin winding station.

The wooden shelves sticking out on the sides act as handles to make it easy to lift and move the stand to where it is needed. These shelves also double as a convenient place to mount a bobbin winder that the weaver can use while seated at their loom. On one side there is a built-in cone/tube holder with room to hold up to 8 tubes of yarn while they wound onto bobbins. The other side incorporates a convenient doubling stand to allow multiple cones of yarn to be plied together. A large bin in the center provides storage space for yarn, shuttles and other tools. Dorothy/Meco/Medico Treadle Stands

These stands can be used to convert a 24" Dorothy or 22" Meco or Medico Table Loom to a floor loom with treadles. A set of 4 clamps attach the loom frame securely to the stand at a comfortable height for a weaver sitting in a chair. The stand can position the base of the loom at three heights from 23 1/2 to 27 1/2 inches off the floor and instead of using the side levers to control which shafts are raised, the weaver uses a set of 6 foot treadles for shaft selection. Note that on the newer Dorothy looms the lower frame bar at the front can be removed to provide more room for taller weavers.

The stand has an optional set of 2 wooden shelves (one on each side) that provide the weaver with a handy place to put shuttles, bobbins and yarn. The shelves have a raised edge to prevent objects from falling off and are about 22 x 5 3/4 inches in size. Both the height of the shelves and the loom itself are adjustable to allow the weaver to set them where they are comfortable. One or both of the shelves can also be easily removed if in the way. The width of the stand without shelves is 30 1/2 inches. With just one shelf it is 37 1/2 inches and with both shelves it is 45 inches.

A set of cords attach the levers to the treadles via a set of lams in the Treadle Stand. The Medico stand (pictured right) also includes the two sets of pulleys needed for the top of the castle to route the cords. The treadles are connected to the lams using a similar method of tie-up as a standard Leclerc floor loom (ie. using treadle cords and treadle hooks).

Both the Treadle Stand and the Loom Stand below use a set of 2 adjustable horizontal support bars to make it easy to set the loom's height to where it is comfortable for the weaver. A set of 4 frame clamps hold the loom securely in place while weaving but allow the loom to be quickly removed by simply unscrewing the knobs a few turns and folding the clamps out of the way. These clamps are pictured below on the Loom Stand and are positioned out of the way of the weaver at the front and back of the loom. This is much nicer than using a standard table with external clamps at just the front of the loom as the clamps don't get in the way! This design also "remembers" the height of the loom when it was last installed on the stand.

Note: This stand is designed to match the width of the 22 and 24 inch Leclerc table looms and will also fit 8 and 12 shaft versions of the looms, but only the first 4 shafts can be controlled using the treadles.

Table Loom Stand

This stand can be used to support a 24" Dorothy or Voyageur or 22" Meco or Medico Table Loom at a comfortable height for a weaver sitting in a chair and is the same basic design as the treadle stand above but without the treadles.

The Table Loom Stand has an optional set of 2 wooden shelves (one on each side) that provide the weaver with a handy place to put shuttles, bobbins and yarn.

Like the Treadle Stand the Loom Stand uses a set of 2 adjustable horizontal support bars to make it easy to set the loom's height at a comfortable height for a weaver sitting in a chair. The stand can position the base of the loom at four heights (27 3/4, 25 1/2, 23 1/2 and 20 3/4 inches off the floor). Note that on the Voyageur and newer Dorothy looms the lower frame bar at the front can be removed to provide more room for taller weavers. The distance from the cloth beam to the floor will be 3 1/4 inches more than the distances stated above although this will decrease a bit as finished cloth is wound on the beam.

The width of the opening under the loom stand is about 27 1/2 inches and it and the height adjusment allows it to be used with most wheelchairs. Note that the stand can be used in the reverse orientation from that in the picture with the horizontal floor beam at the back to not block the wheelchair wheels.

A set of 4 clamps hold the loom securely in place while weaving but allow the loom to be quickly removed by simply unscrewing the knobs a few turns and folding the clamps out of the way. These clamps are pictured to the right and are positioned out of the way of the weaver at the front and back of the loom. This is much nicer than using a standard table with external clamps at just the front of the loom as the clamps don't get in the way! This design also "remembers" the height of the loom when it was last installed on the stand.

Dorothy/Voyageur Folding Loom Table

This folding table is designed to support the 15 3/4" Dorothy or Voyageur Table Looms. The legs are braced with metal brace bars running diagonally along the back and sides. The legs of the table fold in to allow the table to be stored when not in use.

A set of shelves, one at each side of the loom, hold shuttles, bobbins and yarn. One of the shelves can be adjusted (and then locked) allowing the gab between the shelves to be adjusted between 19 1/2 to 20 1/2 inches to fit both the newer 15 3/4 Dorothy and Voyageur looms as well as the older 15 inch Dorothy models. Sliding the shelf tight stops all sideways motion of the loom.

The base of the loom sits on rails that are 24 1/2 inches above the floor and area underneath the table for the weaver's legs is 24 inches (width) and 18 inches (depth). With the shelves on each side the overall width is about 30 inches (wide) by 22 inches (deep).

The PN# below includes the table and the metal braces on both the sides and back. The included back Loom Table Brace Bars are removable and are also available separately for tables where they have become lost or misplaced over the years.
