Woven Shawl/Scarf Kits |
Fleece Artist is a Canadian company established 25 years ago to supply fellow textile artists with natural fibres. Over this time their collection of products has grown and they now hand-dye many colourways in silks, wools, kid mohair, alpaca, cashmere and other fibers.
While designed for knitters, Fleece Artist hand-dyed yarn kits with their explosion of colour are attractive to any Fibre Artist! Handweavers can use the yarn from Knitting kits like the Garter Stitch Jacket to weave beautiful shawls and scarves.
The picture to the right is an example of what a shawl looks like when woven from one of the Fleece Artist kits. Click on this picture and others below to see a larger version.
The kits include enough yarn to weave a shawl 24 inches wide by about 6 feet long plus the fringe. The width/length can be varied as long as the approximate area remains the same.
The shawl pictured was warped at 6 ends per inch, 27 inches wide on the loom (162 ends). The warp is 3 yards long (2 yards for shawl plus 1 yard for loom waste and fringe). This results in a warp requirement of 486 yards and uses the 500 meters of Mo yarn that comes in the kit. The Curlylocks is then used as the weft.
